Citrix Systems has announced that it has entered into definitive agreement to acquire Grasshopper Group, a leading provider of cloud-based telephony solutions for SMEs. Terms of the deal were not disclosed. The acquisition fits well with Citrix's cloud strategy to expand and strengthen its cloud-based communication offerings for SMEs.

Massachusetts-based Grasshopper is a provider of cloud-based communication services. The company offers a cloud-based corporate communication suite that allows companies to set up corporate phone directories with toll-free numbers, voicemail and all. The system works just like a traditional phone system, but it requires no hardware or software to install and run- it's all managed online or by phone.
Grasshopper's strength stems from its ability to offer companies (particularly those that work across multiple offices without any particular HQ)- the ability to stand up a corporate comms telephony system without having to invest in a PBX or any any other expensive legacy kit.
Chris Battlers, vice president of Citrix said: “With the acquisition we expand the breadth of our communications and collaboration solutions fro small businesses, including GoTOMeeting, GoToTraining, GoToWebinar, ShareFile and OpenVoice.”
Don Schiavone, CEO of Grasshopper Group said: “Our team shares the same vision and culture as Citrix, making Citrix the perfect home as we accelerate Grasshopper's growth. This transaction will allow Grasshopper to align itself with a well-respected leader in collaboration solutions for small businesses.”
Founded in 2003 by two entrepreneurs- David Hauser and Siamak Taghaddos, Grasshopper offers a cloud-based communications solutions for SMBs. It provides call forwarding, voicemail transcription and other services that allows entrepreneurs to use cellphones to run their businesses.
The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of 2015.
