Continuing its cloud offensive, Hadoop specialist Hortonworks has acquired SequenceIQ, an open source provider of rapid deployment tools for Hadoop.
Hortonworks on Monday announced that it has signed a definitive agreement to acquire Budapest-based SequenceIO, a specialist in deployment automation technology for launching on-demand Hadoop clusters in the cloud environment or any environment that supports Docker containers technology. The deal marks the second acquisition for the open source Hadoop purveyor Hortonworks, which last year bought Hadoop security specialist XA Secure.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but Hortonworks says the deal is expected to close sometime in second quarter of this year. Hortonworks, which kicked off its IPO last year, says that it plan to incorporate SequenceIQ's technology into the Hortonworks Data Platform and ultimately transition the technology to the Apache Software Foundation.

Founded in 2014 and based in Budapest, SequenceIQ enables organizations to deploy secure and elastic HDP clusters in a consistent manner across the entire analytics lifecycle. It also optimizes these deployments through a policy-based autoscaling that expands and contracts clusters based upon actual usage metrics.
SequenceIQ has gained significant market momentum, the company has developed two innovative piece of technology.
