Networking firm Ericsson acquired Icon Americas, a consulting and systems integration company. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. Ericsson said the deal would boost its portfolio of consulting and systems integration services and OSS/BSS solutions in Latin America.
Ericsson aims to become a leader in the ICT market. The company has made a number of strategic acquisitions in order to boost its IT capabilities and broaden its market reach. The Icon Americas deal will enable Ericsson to address ICT opportunities and challenges in Latin America.
Founded in 1996 and based in Guatemala, Icon Americas is a system integration company that specializes in providing application development and maintenance (ADM) services.

Hugo Cruz, Founder and CEO of Icon Americas, said in a statement: “We are excited to be joining the Ericsson team as a global scale and presence enable us to apply our expertise to a much wider range of customers.”
Sergio Quiroga da Cunha, Head of Ericsson in Caribbean region and Latin America, said in a statement: “IT services is an area of strategic importance to ericsson-not just in Latin America but globally. The acquisition of Icon Americas will improve our ability to provide IT and ADM services to customers in Latin America, thereby strengthening our end-to-end position in OSS/BSS.”
The deal, which is subject to customary conditions, is expected to close in the third quarter of 2015. About 250 employees are expected to join Ericsson.
