Xamarin, a leading enterprise mobility solutions provider, has acquired RoboVM to enable developers to build native iOS and android apps in Java as well as the previously supported C# language.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. RoboVM is the only company in the tech industry that enables native iOS and Android development in Java.
The deal gives Xamarin another built-in source of new customers for Xamarin Test Cloud and Xamarin Insights, and new lifecycle products as the mobile solutions company expands its product portfolio in the market. Xamarin’s mobile solution enables native iOS and Android application development in C# platform. This deal will brings together top two languages in enterprise development and a path to mobile for millions of enterprise developers- up to 13 million developers according to experts.
Henric Muller, CEO RoboVM, said in a statement: “Our mission is to enable Java developers to create beautiful native mobile apps quickly”, and also added that: “Xamarin’s market-leading position in enterprise mobility means that we will be able to scale our reach and enable mobile success for millions of developers.”
Xamarin said that the two companies have taken nearly identical approaches to enabling successful enterprise mobility solutions, and that both companies develop fully native iOS and Android apps- native UI, native performance, and complete access all of APIs for each device platform. Xamarin has seen considerable growth over the last few months as the C# community began to shift to mobile development space. Developers downloads have more than doubled in the last year, which now at over 1.2 million. Expanding into adjacent areas of mobile application lifecycle, Xamarin has raised a $54 million in series C funding round in august 2014.
The company has two major products- Xamarin Test Cloud, which enables developers to test apps on more than 2,000 devices and receive results within minutes; and Xamarin Insights, which provides sophisticated crash and user reporting to further improve app quality and performance for mobile C# developers. The companies said, Xamarin and RoboVM will operate independently to ensure that each team stays focus on their C# and Java user bases respectively. RoboVM will emulate Xamarin’s growth models in developer marketing and customer success to scale their business, and its also customers will benefit from Xamarin’s enterprise-grade mobile technology.
Founded in 2011 and based in San Francisco, Xamarin is a software company that provides development solutions to build and test native mobile apps, including Xamarin Platform, Xamarin Test Cloud and Xamarin Insights. The company powers mobile development for more than 100 of the Fortune 500 companies and is a visionary in Gartner’s 2015 Magic Quadrant report for Mobile Application Development Platforms.
