Network Company Kordia Acquires New Zealand-Based Aura Information Security Firm

Networks company Kordia has acquired Wellington-based Aura Information Security for NZ$10 million. Kordia NZ is expanding its cybersecurity capability by adding Aura Information Security, New Zealand’s leading cybersecurity firm.

There is unprecedented demand for cyber security services these days, it’s now one of the biggest challenges facing businesses globally. Kordia already has a growing footprint in the cybersecurity space. The Aura deal catapults it to becoming New Zealand’s leading cyber-security business. But the Aura deal does not include Aura Redshield business, which was named as a member of the Government's telecommunications as a service (TaaS) procurement panel last week.

Founded in 2001 by entrepreneur Andy Prow, Aura is New Zealand’s leading cyber-security firm and provides specialist computer and network security services throughout New Zealand, as well as in Australia and the US.

Scott Barlett, CEO of Kordia, said in a statement: “Aura fits perfectly with Kordia’s focus on mission-critical technology, as we already help protect some of New Zealand’s largest businesses from attack. With Aura becoming part of Kordia, we are able to own the entire security process for our customers."

“This acquisition is outstanding news for our staff, our stakeholders, and most importantly, for our existing and new Aura customers. It broadens the customer base for both organizations and positions Kordia as the leading cyber-security firm in NZ,” Bartlett added.

Under the transaction, Kordia will become an agent for Aura’s RedShield web application shielding service in New Zealand and Australia. Aura will operate under a separate division within Korida and all Aura personnel are being retained and key Aura staff members Mark Keegan and Peter Bailey will join the Kordia executive committee.
