SGN Makes Two Major Acquisitions: Fat Rascal and Kiwi

SGN, a fast- growing major U.S. mobile games studio, has made two major acquisitions this week: Seattle-based mobile studio, Fat Rascal Games, Inc., and the experienced studio talent from Kiwi Inc. in Palo Alto. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

SGN is a leading cross-platform mobile games studio with over 500 million downloads. Its games have been installed on leading mobile and social platforms, making the company one of the largest cross-platform gaming companies in the world. 

Chris DeWolfe, CEO and co-founder of SGN, said in a statement: "Fat Rascal and Kiwi are two of the best independent studios I've seen in the market today, collectively being involved in some of the biggest social/mobile games in the industry”, and also added that:  "It's an exciting time for us as we continue to deploy fresh capital and acquire the brightest game talent to expand our development capabilities globally." 

The teams from Fat Rascal and Kiwi will expand SGN’s development capabilities. Fat Rascal has years of experience in gaming space. The company has been a part of development teams at major studios like EA, Microsoft, PopCap and Zynga. Fat Rascal’s founding members have produced popular gaming titles such as Zynga Slingo, Matrix Online, and Hidden Chronicles

The team from Kiwi Inc, will bring expertise in new genres and mechanics, complementing SGN’s successful games portfolio. The acquired Kiwi team includes game leads behind chart-topping games like Shipwreck, Chefville, Deep Realms, Gardens of Time, and City of Wonder. In addition, this also team created five top-25 grossing Android titles in the last four years.

Founded in 2010 by MySpace Co-Founders Chris DeWolfe and Aber Whitcomb and former Fox executive Josh Yguado, SGN is a top cross-platform developer and publisher of games on Facebook, iOS and Android. SGN’s hit titles include Book of Life, sugar Smash, Cookie Jam, Panda Pop, Panda Jam and MindJolt

The company represents the next generation of social game development in the market. SGN’s proprietary and patent-pending MasterKey technology, allows a game to be built and seamlessly distributed across multiple platforms, including Facebook, iOS, Android and even Amazon. SGN is based in Los Angeles, California, and has offices in San Francisco, San Diego, Palo Alto and Buenos Aires in Argentina.
