Accelerate Acquires Citrix's Cloud Platform Assets

Accelerite this week has acquired Citrix’s CloudStack-based cloud orchestration platform, CloudPlatform, and its unified cloud services delivery and business management platform CloudPortal Business Manager. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Citrix made a huge news when it announced that it’s selling its cloud platform assets to Accelerate, a business unit of Persistent Systems.

Accelerate has made some significant acquisitions in the field of cloud computing and virtualization. In June, it acquired unified management software provider Convirtue for its virtualization and cloud businesses. And, in October, it acquired cloud-based network solutions firm Aepona Holdings from Intel.

Steve Wilson, vice president and general manager, Converged Infrastructure at Citrix, wrote in a blog post: "We at Citrix are extremely confident that Accelerite will help nurture our customers, who are heavily invested in running their public, commercial clouds on these solutions and will allow Citrix to focus on our core priorities around the secure delivery of apps and data," and also added this: "Citrix will work closely with Accelerite to build on CloudPlatform integrations with XenServer, NetScaler and Citrix Workspace Cloud."

Nara Rajagopalan, CEO of Accelerate, said in a statement: “The addition of CloudPlatform and CloudPortal Business Manager product lines will help round out our portfolio and enables us to offer complete end-to-end lifecycle management for public and private clouds,” and also added this: “Although we see an increase in both the acceptance and adoption of containers in today’s clouds, large gaps still exist in an enterprise’s ability to deploy and manage containers in these environments. CloudPlatform, with its simplicity and ease-of-use along with its tremendous customer base, is a great platform for enterprises to use to address this emerging need to help evolve the cloud into its next phase of hyper-convergence.”

Following the deal, Citrix will work with Accelerite on CloudPlatform software integrations including integrations with XenServer, NetScaler and Citrix Workspace Cloud. Accelerite has committed to working with the Apache Foundation and contributing its CloudPlatform roadmap to the Apache CloudStack project.
