Salesforce Acquires PredictionIO To Boost Its Machine Learning Capabilities

Salesforce has acquired PredictionIO, a startup that develops an open source machine learning server. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.The deal build out the company's technology in the machine learning and big data analytics.

Machine learning is getting too much attention these days. Salesforce has already acquired two companies for this field- cloud software startup RelateIQ and smart calendar app maker Tempo AI.The enterprise software company has been busy beefing its portfolio, building out its data science team and hiring talents in that field.

Simon Chan, PredictionIO’s Co-founder and CEO, wrote in a blog post: 
Over the past few years, we’ve been on a mission to scale and simplify development of machine learning technology,” and also added this: “What started as a passion project quickly grew into much more — now with a community of more than 8,000 developers powering more than 400 apps. We’re so thankful for this community and the support you’ve given us.”

Founded in 2013 and was based in Palo Alto, California, PredictionIO provides a general-purpose open source machine learning software. Before its deal, the company raised a $2.5 million round in 2014. Backers include Quest Venture Partners, Azure Capital Partners, CrunchFund, the Stanford-StartX Fund, and Kima Ventures. Its software are used by data scientists to evaluate models and create components.

Based in San Francisco, California, Salesforce is a global cloud computing company that provides business software on a subscription basis (SaaS). Salesforce offers a comprehensive customer and collaboration relationship management service to businesses of all sizes and industries. It also provides a technology platform to build and run enterprise applications.

Salersforce was founded by former Oracle executive Marc Benioff, Parker Harris, Dave Moellenhoff, and Frank Dominguez in 1999. Salesforce’s early investors include Oracle’s Larry Ellison, halsey Minor, Stewart Henerson, Mark Iscaro, Nancy Pelosi, and Igor Sill of Geneva Venture Partners.
