Zebra To Boost Portfolio, Acquires Rugged Mobility Provider Xplore Technologies

Zebra Technologies, a company that builds enterprise-level data capture and automatic identification solutions, has acquired rugged tablet maker Xplore Technologies Corporation for around $90 million. Zebra made the big announcement this week.

As mentioned earlier by TechCrunch, the deal will expand Zebra’s reach into the retail, manufacturing, transportation, logistics and healthcare verticals. It will also give the company a new way to sell into further markets where Xplore already has a strong presence such as the government, public safety, and energy sector.

Zebra CEO Anders Gustafsson said in a recent statement that the deal will enhance the company’s product lineup and provides Zebra a complete rugged tablet portfolio that will give its customers a performance edge. Additionally, the acquisition of Xplore will also provide access to a great team as well as product lineup that could help Zebra grow in a highly competitive market.

The Austin-based Xplore has already established a leading market position and as an innovative developer of ultra-rugged laptops, tablets and a range of performance matched accessories. The company’s products are designed to withstand demanding and nearly any hazardous condition for years without fail. The enterprise-grade security, power versatility, and flexibility of the company’s products make it easy for industrial, enterprise and government and field service organizations to boost mobile worker efficiency.

The deal is expected to close in Q3 2018, TechCrunch said.
